UMIT TIROL is an internationally recognized university with a focus on Health Sciences, Life Sciences und Health Care Technologies.</p><p>The Institute of Public Health, Medical Decision Making and Health Technology Assessment (Head: Univ.-Prof. Dr. Uwe Siebert) of the Department of Public Health, Health Services Research and Health Technology Assessment is currently seeking to appoint a:</p><h4>Doctoral Student /Senior Post-Doc Scientist in Public Health, Medical Decision Analysis and Evidence-based Medicine</h4><p>to commence as <strong>soon as possible</strong> and initially limited to three years in <strong>full-time or part-time</strong> (100%, 75% or 50%); an extension is possible and is being sought.</p><p>The position is affiliated with the MeDeMSA and EUCanScreen projects, as well as other research initiatives in health decision science.</p><p>The Medical Decision Making in MSA (MeDeMSA) Research Group aims to develop personalized diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for individuals living with multiple system atrophy (MSA). Its overarching goals are to enable early and accurate diagnosis to support clinical trial recruitment, and to improve quality of life for patients and caregivers—while addressing ethical, legal, and health-economic considerations. The PhD research will focus on systematic decision analysis and health technology assessment (HTA) in MSA, including statistical analysis, benefit-harm evaluations, cost-effectiveness analyses, and equity assessments to support decision-making by patients, providers, and payers.</p><p>The EUCanScreen project aims to ensure the sustainable implementation of high-quality screening programs for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer, and to prepare for implementing recently recommended screenings for lung, prostate, and gastric cancers. At UMIT TIROL, subprojects emphasize the full implementation of evidence-based, cost-effective, and quality-assured screening programs—particularly for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancers—with a focus on expanding to lung and prostate cancer screening.</p><h4>Your tasks:</h4><ul><li>participation in the Institute’s national and international research projects in the fields of Public Health, Decision-Analytic Modeling, Epidemiology, Outcomes Research, and Health Technology Assessment (HTA) for national HTA authorities. These projects focus on evaluating interventions in disease areas such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, and rare diseases (e.g., multiple system atrophy).</li><li>conducting scientific analyses, including decision-analytic modeling, systematic reviews, epidemiologic and evidence-based evaluations, and the development of fact boxes and recommendations.</li><li>contributing to the development and implementation of quality assurance processes, as well as data collection, management, and preparation.</li><li>performing interim analyses and reporting, and contributing to publications in international peer-reviewed journals.</li><li>participating in teaching and academic program organization, including in the areas of Public Health and Health Data & Decision Science, the UMIT TIROL Academy Program, and continuing education initiatives.</li></ul><h4>Your profile:</h4><ul><li>successful candidates with a strong quantitative background will hold a Master’s degree or PhD, preferably in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, applied mathematics, informatics, or a related field.</li><li>additional qualifications or professional experience in quantitative methods in epidemiology or biostatistics, including causal inference, decision-analytic modeling, and machine learning, would be an advantage.</li><li>demonstrated ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks in parallel, with attention to detail and a systematic approach, and to communicate research findings to diverse audiences.</li><li>proven ability to work effectively within a team to achieve timely and meaningful objectives.</li><li>strong commitment to interdisciplinary, team-oriented research.</li><li>excellent written and oral communication skills in English.</li><li>experience in statistical analysis using software such as SAS, Stata, R, or SPSS; programming languages such as Python or Java; and literature management tools such as EndNote.</li></ul><h4>We offer you:</h4><ul><li>Opportunity for scientific qualification as PhD (in HTA or Public Health) at UMIT TIROL</li><li>Opportunity for national and international network building and policy impact</li><li>Flexible and family-friendly working hours</li><li>Continuing education and training opportunities as part of the continuing education program for scientists at the Department</li><li>Working in an interdisciplinary and innovation-driven environment in one of the largest Public Health departments of Europe</li></ul><p>The salary is based on the salary group scheme of UMIT TIROL and <strong>amounts to € 2.786,10 (full-time).</strong></p><p>UMIT TIROL values diversity and therefore welcomes all applications – regardless of gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, world view, disability, age, sexual orientation and identity.
